Portrait of Peg Allen

Peg Allen's focus is applied research to learn how best to support state and local health departments and their partnering organizations in capacity-building for evidence-based chronic disease prevention. The goal is to support public health departments in instituting management practices to support such capacity-building, including practices in leadership support, workforce development, organizational climate and culture, and partnerships.

For workforce development, Allen's objective is to support training and technical assistance with governmental health department employees and staff in partnering organizations to enhance and apply understanding and skills in community assessment, planning, adaptation and implementation of evidence-based policies and programs, and evaluation.

Allen also interacts with masters and doctoral students in her role at the Prevention Research Center. This line of research complements and furthers her previous research in tobacco use and coordinated school health conducted in partnership with state health and education agencies. Her career has been devoted to chronic disease prevention through tobacco and school health policy and programs, adult health and prevention research.
