Janelle Gibson

Janelle Barker Gibson's career reflects 25 years of work in human services and healthcare. Trained in both clinical interventions and macro practice, Janelle's career reflects the intersectionality of a social work career.

Gibson is currently the lead instructor for Human Behavior in the Social Environment, as well as Social Work Practice with Organizations and Communities. She also serves as is a frequent instructor for Brown's Professional Development coursework. As such, she has been recognized twice for excellence in teaching and was honored to lecture at Fudan University in Shanghai, China on the topic of nonprofit management and social entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining the Brown School, Gibson coordinated a child welfare program for the Department of Social Services in the State of Missouri addressing the needs of substance addicted mothers and their children. She also served as a registered lobbyist, a development professional and a community volunteer and board member with organizations in both St. Louis, Missouri and Seattle, Washington. Her experience in healthcare focused on the development and marketing of disease state management protocols for pharmaceutical and information technology companies.

 Since 2007, she has provided management consulting services for nonprofits throughout St. Louis.
