Part-Time MSW Curriculum
The Brown School's Part-Time MSW program offers students the opportunity to earn their MSW through a hybrid schedule of evening, weekend and online courses.
The Part-Time MSW was designed for working professionals who may not have the flexibility to enroll in a full-time program with courses that are offered primarily during the day.

Students in the Part-Time MSW program complete 60 credit hours over the course of three and a half years, with the option to complete the program in three years if they choose to enroll in additional coursework during the summer semesters.
The part-time program curriculum is comprised of 25 credit hours of foundation-level courses and practicum, and 26 credit hours of courses and practicum in the Mental Health concentration, the Children, Youth and Families concentration or the Social Impact Leadership concentration. Students will also have 9 credit hours of elective coursework which can be used to earn an optional specialization or to take other graduate coursework in social work, public health, social policy or relevant courses from other WashU graduate programs.
Students must keep in mind that some elective courses, including those required for fulfilling specializations, are scheduled for the full-time MSW program. Thus, students wishing to take specific elective courses may have to take them during the day, as evening and weekend courses will not be available for all classes.
Part-Time MSW Curricular Format
The part-time program utilizes multiple methods of delivering curriculum to maximize the flexibility of student learning. Courses may be delivered in-person, remotely, synchronously, asynchronously, weekly or in a weekend format.
-
In-person: students will attend courses on campus and in person. Although remote learning is a component of the part-time program, students will need to be able to attend in-person classes that are held in St. Louis
-
Remotely: students will attend courses via a remote platform such as Zoom or Canvas
-
Synchronously: students will attend courses via a remote platform live with classmates and the instructor
-
Asynchronously: students will complete independent work such as recorded lectures and practice exercises
-
Weekly: students attend on a weekly basis with the instructor or some combination of weekly live lecture and weekly independent study
-
Weekend: students attend in-person courses over the weekend, which can span from Friday-Sunday.
