The Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis admits one class each year for the fall semester. Applications are accepted on a modified rolling basis; however, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early. Priority deadlines for admission and scholarship consideration are December 1 (early action) and March 1 (priority consideration). After March 1, admission and scholarship decisions are made based on availability through July 1.

Application Instructions
The application for the Brown School’s Master of Public Health program is available
here through
SOPHAS – The Centralized Application Service for Public Health. You must designate your chosen MPH program under
Washington University in St. Louis – Brown School Public Health Programs within the SOPHAS portal. Please review the following instructions carefully prior to beginning your application.
Please note: 3-2 MPH applicants should apply through
SOPHAS Express. Applicants
currently enrolled in another Washington University graduate program may also be eligible to apply through the SOPHAS Express application. Students can read more about the SOPHAS Express portal

It is very important to understand the SOPHAS application process before submitting your application. Please read the SOPHAS instructions and
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and refer to them throughout the application process. It is your responsibility to monitor the status of your application in the SOPHAS portal.
Once your application becomes “Complete” in SOPHAS, it can take up to four weeks for the SOPHAS verification process to be completed. Please submit all materials well in advance of deadlines to allow for timely processing. Also note that additional documents may be required for your application to be considered “complete” for our review purposes. We will review your file once your SOPHAS application is verified and all of the following supporting documents have been received.

Transcripts
Applicants are required to demonstrate successful completion of a bachelor’s degree (or degree in-progress*) from a regionally accredited college or university.
SOPHAS requires that you submit official transcripts from each institution attended regardless of the number of courses/credits taken.
Transcripts must be submitted directly to SOPHAS. Please do not send transcripts to the Brown School during the initial application process.
SOPHAS has very specific transcript requirements –
please review the instructions carefully and provide ample time for process and verification of transcripts.
*In-Progress transcripts: If you have not completed your bachelor’s degree at the time of application, please submit transcripts showing the work you have completed to date to SOPHAS. An admissions decision will be rendered, however any offer of admission is contingent upon successful completion of your degree. If admitted to the program, a final official transcript showing degree conferral must be sent to the Brown School directly by the issuing institution or its authorized agent.
Personal Statement
Provide a personal statement that describes your interest in public health and demonstrates your understanding of public health concepts. Your essay should be two (2) pages single-spaced and should include the following:
- Significant factors influencing your decision to pursue a Master of Public Health degree.
- Relevant leadership experiences that will contribute to your overall success as a graduate student and in the public health profession.
- Career goals and commitment to public health.
- Specific reasons the Brown School is a good fit for your educational and professional goals.

Resume or CV
In addition to completing the ‘Experience’ and ‘Achievements’ sections of the SOPHAS application, you must submit a comprehensive resume or curriculum vitae.

Video Interview
The Brown School requires applicants to the MSW, MPH and MSP programs to complete a video interview for admission consideration. After submitting the MPH application through SOPHAS, you will receive an email invitation to create your Washington University Graduate Admissions Portal account to view your application checklist. Letters of Recommendation
You must provide information in SOPHAS for three (3) references to receive requests for recommendations to be submitted electronically.

Standardized Test Scores
The Brown School is not requiring the GRE or another standardized test score for admission to the MPH program. Though we understand some students may want to submit a score, please know that these scores will not be considered in the admissions process.
International students are required to provide proof of language proficiency. Preferred standard testing options are the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS). See the

SOPHAS Application Fee
The SOPHAS application fee is $145 for one school or program. Any additional schools or programs you choose to apply to through SOPHAS will cost $55 per designation. SOPHAS accepts credit card payments only.
The Brown School is not able to directly provide application fee waivers for the SOPHAS application, however we encourage applicants to review the
SOPHAS Fee Assistance Program to determine their eligibility for a financial- or service-based fee waiver.
Prerequisite - Human Biology Course
Students admitted to the MPH program are required to demonstrate that their academic background includes a
college-level human biology course with a
grade of “B” or better. Within the "Questions" section of the application, you will be asked to self-report your human biology course. Students who have not met the human biology prerequisite prior to enrolling in the program are required to remove the deficiency by the end of their first semester.
