Through the Alliance for Building Capacity (ABC), Brown taps the talent of faculty and students to help build the capacity of St. Louis nonprofit organizations. By providing a range of education, training, consultation, and networking opportunities, ABC helps area organizations more effectively serve their constituents.
The Brown School is also affiliated with the Gephardt Institute for Public Service, led by assistant professor of social work, Amanda Moore McBride, PhD. As Washington University’s nexus for service, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service promotes life-long civic engagement and sustained community impact. The Institute collaborates with schools and departments to offer a range of meaningful opportunities for community involvement to students, staff, faculty, and alumni/ae.
The Institute’s Community Service Office fosters student impact and leadership through co-curricular service including such signature initiatives as Each One Teach One and Social Change Grants. WU faculty and departments work with the Institute to incorporate community-based teaching and learning in academic courses across the disciplines, engaging students in both local and global service. The Institute also encourages active involvement in civic life through voter registration and education and the promotion of public service careers.
Brown also offer a wide variety of online resources, along with regular lectures that brings together important voices to discuss issues of social change. Open to the community, the series offers excellent networking opportunities.
