Why Are We Studying Pathways Triple P?

We have chosen to study the Pathways Triple P Parenting Intervention because it...
• Is designed to increase positive parenting behaviors, and treat and prevent disruptive child behavior problems
• Enhances the knowledge, skills, and confidence of parents, while reducing the prevalence rates of behavioral and emotional problems in children and adolescents
• Is well suited for implementation in child welfare settings because it was developed for parents at high risk of maltreating their children
• Contains components to address factors that often complicate parent training with high risk parents
• Is yet to be tested with a U.S. population
• Is yet to be examined for its ability to prevent maltreatment recidivism

Therefore, we believe it is a promising intervention for child welfare systems.

Why Are Behavioral Parent Training Programs Needed in Child Welfare?

• Children in this service sector have a high risk for developing conduct disorder*
• Evidence based interventions are emerging
• Yet, few have been tested with child welfare systems
• The cost of delivering ineffective services to this population is high; therefore, there is a need to determine whether these interventions work with this population and/or if they can be adapted to work with this population.
