Students, faculty, and staff of the Brown School have access to many library databases for research, study, and teaching.

A full text, newspaper database. Includes over 1,000 international newspaper titles, none from the United States.

A mixture of databases, dictionaries, and historical information on Africa. Compiled and maintained by Davis Bullwinkle, "director of the Institute for Economic Advancement Research Library within the Institute for Economic Advancement on the campus of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, in Little Rock, Arkansas."
 
AgeLine  (1978- )
Indexes books, journals, research reports and videos. A database produced by AARP including information about aging, care giving, health, psychology, retirement, social policies, medical issues, etc. This database is free, but is limited in concurrent users, nationwide. If you are unable to access this database, wait a few minutes and try logging in again. Use the Thesaurus of aging terminology when searching by subject. More info

American Indian index
"Part of the Hayden Labriola National American Indian Data Center Collection, covers prehistory to the present time and includes all topics dealing with the American Indian in Alaska, Canada, and the United States. Photographs are included in this collection." Specialized index made available by Arizona State University.
 
Arizona and Southwestern Index
Specialized index made available by Arizona State University. "Dates from prehistory to the present time and covers all subjects dealing with Arizona and The Southwest including some southwestern Indian tribes. The index contains photographs and material found in the Hayden Arizona Collection in the Department of Archives & Manuscripts."

CaMPBELL COLLABORATION

An international database providing evidence based articles in the social and behavioral sciences. This searchable database includes material on criminal justice, education and social welfare.

Case studies in public policy and management
Produced by Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, this database includes materials on public policy and government in the form of cases. Material is available for purchase, abstracts are free.
 
Child abuse, child welfare & adoption (1965 - )

A database of systematic reviews providing the best evidence in health related literature.  The Library provides additional resources relevant to evidence based practice in the social sciences. More info

Community of Science (CoS)
A database listing researchers and research projects nation wide. Funding sources may also be found. Individual researchers can include their projects.
 
Contemporary Women's Issues  (1992 - )
Full-text. Journal index. Provides access to international information on women and women's issues from journals, newsletters, and research reports from non-profit groups, governments and international agencies, and fact sheets. Updated 26 times a year. More info

A full-text collection of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press, covering many subject areas ranging from the more focused ethnic area studies to the arts, business, education, the environment, history, journalism, political science, and sociology. Family & Society Studies Worldwide (1970 - )
Includes journals, conferences, reports, books, etc. This database combines four previous databases into one with over 700,000 records. More info
 
GenderWatch (1974 - )
Full-text. Journal index. A full-text collection of international journals, magazines, newsletters, regional publications, special reports, and conference proceedings devoted to women's and gender issues. Over 31,000 full text articles from approximately 115 publications and archival material dating as far back as 1974. Updated quarterly. More info
 
GLBT Life
GLBT Life is a database indexing literature on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender issues. This database currently indexes materials from over 80 GLBT periodicals. It has an archive of material indexing literature back to the 1950s. "Disciplines covered by GLBT Life include civil liberties, culture, employment, family, history, politics, psychology, religion, sociology, and more."(From Database Help link on database search page). HaPI: Health and Psychosocial Instruments
Journal articles and psychosocial tests and measures; including rating scales, questionnaires, etc. To access this database you must ask full time library staff for a username and password. Access is restricted to on campus usage.
 
HaPI: HISPANIC AMERICAN PERIODICAL INDEX (1970 -)
Indexes journal articles, original literary works, book reviews and more. Includes material on "Central and South America, Mexico, Brazil, the Caribbean basin, the United States-Mexico border region, and Hispanics/Latinos in the United States."
 
HRAF WORLD CULTURES
Produced by Yale University and a consortium of other universities and colleges.  This database includes information on societies and cultures around the world.  Customs, cultures, societies are discussed, compared, reported.

Journal database. Covers international research in all areas of research but is strong in social science and humanities. More info

Access to very large computer data files in the social sciences, including election results, polls, surveys, and census. More info

Some full text. A searchable database of titles collected by Ingenta. Use this database to set up a current awareness service to monitor new articles published on a subject of interest or keep up with what is being published in an important journal in a subject area. More info

Grants database that searches some 7,500 funding opportunities available to graduate students, faculty, undergraduate students, and institutions. Available on the Washington University campuses due to a subscription by the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. More info

National criminal justice reference service abstracts (1970 - )
Provides abstracts to over 170,000 publications covering books, journals, and reports on the local state and federal level. All aspects of criminal justice are included. Some full text material is included and linked from the abstract. More info

Full-text. Includes access to the National Journal, the Hotline, Congress Daily, and other politics, policy and government information. More info

Produced by the National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and searchable via the CSA Illumina interface. The database is international in scope and does not limit itself to veteran injury or experiences.

Some fulltext. A searchable database of Elsevier titles. This service includes Elsevier titles published in Business and management, Economics and finance, and the Social sciences. More info
 
St. Louis Post-Dispatch  (1988 - )
Online access to the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch, including the archive from 1988 to the present. Please note that while you can search the archive for free, full-text articles are no longer free on the web. The Libraries do have this newspaper on microfilm. SocINDEX for alumni
Indexes scholarly journals, books conference proceedings, reports, etc in the social sciences. This database covers 590 core journals; with coverage going as far back as 1895 for some select titles.

A comprehensive social sciences database.  Scholarly journals, books, conference proceedings and many other published materials are included in the indexing coverage of this database.  Most core journals are indexed back to 1908 with some going as far back as 1895.

A searchable database of current and recent legislation. THOMAS is produced by the U.S. federal government. Allows searching for key words, bill numbers, subjects, sponsor, etc. Includes Congressional reports. Provides bill summaries and status. Can search through Congressional record.

UNESCO Documents and Publications
An index to the publications of this multinational, multilingual organization. Many publications are available for free or electronically in full text.
 
United Nations Common Database
A statistical database compiled by the United Nations Statistics Division providing data from select sources for all countries. The material is searchable by various topics.
