Social Development Issues

The Department of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong is the new editorial home of the international journal, Social Development Issues. The journal is sponsored by the International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD), a professional association of development scholars and practitioners worldwide. Frank Raymond, Distinguished Dean and Professor Emeritus from the University of South Carolina, serves as the President of ICSD. Dr. Joe Leung, Professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, is the new editor of the journal.

Social Development Issues (SDI) is a refereed journal of applied social theory and research that serves as a forum for achieving linkages among multiple academic disciplines and professionals. SDI also seeks to reach across nations and cultures around the world. The purpose is to promote consideration of issues related to social justice, social and economic development, and well being of individuals, families, communities, and nations. SDI is committed to the advancement of social, cultural, political, and economic theory and evidence, with a commitment to application in policy and practice.

Manuscripts addressing alternative approaches to development are welcome. Perspectives and research on social and cultural foundations of well-being; civic engagement; any aspect of capacity building; lifespan, gender, and racial issues, with particular attention to gender and racial equality; health and mental health challenges; and movements such as feminism, human rights, peace, and environmentalism as these intersect with social development.
