States and Asset-Building: Expanding State IDA Policies and Improving Connections to Federal Policies
November 10-12, 2003
Following the tradition of the two previous IDA state policy conferences, the purpose of the 2003 conference was to bolster state-level support for IDA and asset-building policies by providing state policy leaders with opportunities for capacity-building. This years conference also included dialogue concerning how state IDA and asset-building policies correspond with existing and proposed federal policies.
The conference opened with an informal reception to welcome approximately 95 participants representing thirty-six states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The conference continued with a day and a half of workshops and plenaries that informed and challenged the participants. Workshops and plenaries spanned a variety of topics including current IDA policy trends, state asset-building policies for children, Native Americans, and people with disabilities, asset protection policies, AFIA, and the Savings for Working Families Act.
