Library

The library serves the Brown School’s social work students, faculty, and staff, and the greater community.

The library, which is open to the public, is home to one of the finest collections in the nation in the fields of child welfare, community development, family therapy, mental health, children and youth, gerontology, public welfare, management of human services, and social policy.

Approximately 50,000 books, journals, publications and audiovisuals comprise the library's total collection.

The library subscribes to more than 450 periodicals. More than 1,000 bound volumes are added to the collection each year.

The library also has access to numerous online databases, full-text journals, and a broad collection of hard copy indices and abstracts.

Subject bibliographies of current library holdings are available on African Americans, Alcoholism, American Indians, Asian Americans, Children, Families & Youth, Diversity, Elderly, Family Therapy, Gay & Lesbian Issues, Gerontology, Hispanic Americans, Mental Health, Minorities, Multiculturalism, Social and Economic Development, Women, and the Wortman Collection.

Librarians are available to assist with online database searching, bibliographies, reference queries, and searching the Washington University Libraries' catalog.
