Volunteer work in high school and college, combined with her religious upbringing in Seoul, South Korea, contributed to Yoo Sun’s interest in social work.
“While in college, I went to Nepal as an international volunteer. I lived with a lot of people who could not spell their names. They could not dream about their lives. I am privileged to have an education, so I feel it is my responsibility to share my knowledge. That is why I decided to study more and to get an MSW.”
Yoo Sun is completing her foundation practicum at Queen of Peace Center, a substance abuse treatment agency for women. She hopes to complete her concentrations practicum in Nepal.
“After graduation, I want to work for a year or two and think about a PhD. Eventually, I hope to work for an international agency of some kind. I’d like to go back to Nepal and work in community and economic development.”
