This journalist and former German teacher is intrigued by how communities organize themselves to achieve a specific goal.
"I grew up in a very poor community. I saw how people would organize to get basic things, like water, that they needed to exist. I thought if a community can achieve this, what more could be accomplished? Is there a way to help people build their social capital so they can organize and ask the political establishments for things that are necessary for their development? As I pondered these questions, it was clear that I shouldn't be teaching German anymore.
"At the Brown School I can learn about social policy and how it is translated into real action at the local level."
