Growing up in Gunsan, South Korea, KyeongMo had plans of going to medical school, but after spending time with several social workers he decided to take a different path. He was attracted to St. Louis for personal reasons, but enamored with the Brown School for professional ones.
“I had the opportunity to study with some of the most well-regarded faculty in the fields of poverty, mental health, and gerontology. The School also gives a lot of support to its international students, such as part-time jobs and a writing lab.”
Although he calls St. Louis his second hometown, KyeongMo now works as the Director of Suburban Office at Hanul Family Alliance in Metropolitan Chicago (a position he's held since his graduation in 2006.)
“It’s the ideal position for someone with my interests.”
"Empowering immigrant families facing linguistic and cultural barriers and enhancing their quality of life, I am in charge of providing and developing comprehensive services with an emphasis on senior services, community health, and civic engagement.
"Using my practicum experiences and Brown School courses as a guide, I've recently helped develop and run asset-building programs promoting financial literacy and savings. I will strive to expand community health programs for the un-insured and under-insured families and to encourage volunteerism in immigrant families.
