“I started applying to overseas schools of social work because there was no Masters program in Social Work in Kenya. I started my studies at a one year program at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. And eventually enrolled at Brown School, where I am completing an individualized concentration, taking coursework in Children, Youth and Families, Mental health. I am also completing a specialization in research because I hope to enroll in a PhD program someday.

“Washington University and the Brown School provide tremendous opportunities for career and professional development. While here I have worked with the library, career services office, the Center for Tobacco Policy Research, and the University’s Institute of Applied Research. I have also found time to be involved in social justice issues as a volunteer with the St. Louis Save Darfur Coalition.

“I also recently received a Summer International Public Health Award to conduct mentored research at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bangalore, India."
