“I grew up in Alabama during the peak of school integration, an experience that has fostered my life-long curiosity about the dynamics of race and race relations in our society. At the Brown School I am combining psychology, public health, and social work to understand this dynamic and explore how issues of race and ethnicity impact disparities in health, income, and education.
“Right now I’m assessing how we can mobilize different disciplines and effectively partner with underserved communities to address their needs. Our approach must be intensive and comprehensive and address much more than just health or housing. It’s not work for the faint of heart. Fortunately, Brown School students and faculty are up for the challenge.”
“I enjoy teaching our students. They always ask thoughtful, provocative questions that push my thinking. The diversity of the student body also adds the educational experience. Students are so willing to share their lives; it’s phenomenal.”
