Luis H. Zayas is the founder and director of the Brown School's new Center for Latino Family Research. Dr. Zayas is a nationally recognized leader in Latino mental health issues. His work has received significant national media attention.
"I went to school in New York expecting to go into the diplomatic corps, but I found that it didn't allow me to connect with people. Social work is a field that would bring me closer to the people I wanted to serve. Adding a doctorate in developmental psychology was a natural path for my career and my passion.
"I am fascinated by how we change; how forces of all sizes can impact our development. I am interested in how culture influences families.
"I enjoy teaching human behavior courses because I want my students to understand the many different avenues that people take to grow and develop. It is important to expose students to this variety."
