Jack A. Kirkland

Associate Professor

"My goal in the classroom is to teach my students how to work with distressed and depressed communities and to revitalize them."

Jack Kirkland is a nationally known scholar who lectures, consults, and writes on the African-American family.

"I want students to be armed with practical knowledge so they can have an impact on communities, whether it is through having a seat in government, in private enterprises, in business or through community agencies. Towns need people who can effectively bring together and coordinate economic and social resources."

"I think that our students are becoming more and more oriented toward social issues, social problems and recognizing that helping needy families requires serious energy and effort."

"I've enjoyed doing what I do here at the University and in the community. St. Louis is the best laboratory in the world."
