A basic overview of ethical theories, ethical decision making tools and processes, laws pertaining to incapacity, and the role of the social worker and the social work code of ethics will be presented. Topics that will be explored include assessment of mental capacity and ‘developmental stage’ of cognitive function, and right to autonomy in decision making.
