Implementation Research Training Institute
Announcement for Training Fellows
Junior and Mid-Level Mental Health Services Researchers
We are launching a unique training program in implementation research (IR) based at NIMH’s funded Center for Mental Health Services Research (CMHSR), at Washington University in St. Louis. It is a two-year Training Fellow position for junior and mid-level mental health services researchers interested in advancing implementation science. The institute is funded by NIMH (R25 MH080916) and led by Drs. Enola Proctor and John Landsverk, in collaboration with expertise research scholars from across the nation.
Evidence-based mental health treatments are not delivered to most patients who would benefit from them, largely because we do not know how to implement them. Recent NIH Program Announcements on “Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health” invite new and innovative approaches to identifying, understanding, and overcoming barriers to the adoption of evidence-based interventions.
8 Institute Fellows will receive the following, expenses paid, with the intention to bolster their research capacity related to IR and their submission of a competitive IR grant proposal to NIH:
- one week on-site training in St. Louis, June 2010 and June 2011
- bimonthly mentoring with a expert research scholar
- regular consultation with research scholars across the nation
- 5-day site visit to Implementation Research Site
- pilot project funding for real-world implementation
We will accept nominations and applications for Training Fellows now through 2/10. Candidates should have the following:
- a Ph.D.
- expressed interest in implementation research
- prior or concurrent experience relevant to implementation research such as intervention development and/or testing, mental health services research, or study of organizational factors in mental health services
- prior experience writing an NIH F31, R03, R34/R21, K award or R01 proposal
- based in a home institution with an on-site mentor supportive of the Fellow’s progress in grant writing and scholarly publication
- access to a clinic/service settings willing to serve as pilot site for the fellow’s implementation research.
