The possibilities are limitless and convenient. Use this Housing and Neighborhood Information Packet as your first source. Washington University owns and operates several apartment complexes specifically for graduate students. Most graduate students live in one of the many privately-owned apartments located within a 10-block radius of the school. Both furnished and unfurnished rooms, apartments and houses are available. We recommend you consult with Apartment Referral Service (ARS), a resource for University students, faculty and staff looking for apartments, duplexes, condos or houses. See links below for resources and tips for getting settled in St. Louis.
Change your address with the post office, financial institutions, credit cards, and magazines.
Don't forget to check with your new local City Hall about possible required parking and occupancy permits. If you plan to live within walking distance of the Danforth Campus, you will probably be living in one of three municipalities: University City, Clayton, or the City of St. Louis. Familiarize yourself with University-sponsored and public transportation options- often the most efficient way to get to campus.
If you plan to transfer your car registration/license to Missouri, do so within a month of your arrival or else you will face penalty fines. If you do so, be sure your car insurance reflects the change. Missouri car registration requires Missouri state inspection and proof of insurance and may also require a vehicle emissions test. If you have a car and plan to drive to WU, get a campus parking permit from the Transportation Office.
